Part of our Catholic mission is the creation of environments where learners flourish. Wireless in all classrooms, 1:1 mobile devices in students' hands, and a Google Apps account for all staff and students, means that learning in our classrooms can be full of hope and life. Our learners have a voice and we want to hear them. (TCEO)
St Catherine’s Catholic College is a Google Apps for Education School.
Our aim is to develop our students digital literacy skills, preparing our students to use technology responsibly to compose ideas, research information, communicate, create, and collaborate. Google Apps for Education provides access to web-based tools to create documents, spreadsheets, presentations and websites.
Mercy Campus students have access to an extensive range of technology. There are several laptop trolleys, a computer lab and iPad devices booked out to all classes for use in numerous curriculum tasks.
St Catherine’s have a Technology Agreement that parents/guardians are required to read and agree to in order to have access to the college network. This Technology Agreement is issued each year and students and parents/guardians are required to read this agreement, sign and return it to the school. The school and network administrators also reserve the right to monitor computer use and review files and communications to maintain system integrity and insure that users are using the system responsibly. The network administrator may cancel or suspend a student’s account for a period of time, if the student has not acted responsibly according to the signed agreement.
From Prep, students learn how to log onto the college computer network with a username and password. They also practice formal keyboarding skills using a variety of programs. The children learn to access their Google accounts and utilise the tools within them. Logo programming is used to understand how to use a series of instructions to control and operate a device. Comprehensive lessons are also conducted on cybersafety from Prep.
