Students enjoy Grammy award winning performance
Our Senior Modern History students enjoyed a moving performance by the Grammy Award winning Soweto Gospel Choir at the Proserpine Entertainment Centre in Term 3. The performance consisted of South African freedom songs, as well as a repertoire of the protest music of the American Civil Rights Movement, including works by James Brown, Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin. Our students are currently studying the Anti-Apartheid Movement in South Africa in preparation for their exam next term. They have recently completed their unit on the American Civil Rights Movement. As such, the performance consolidated our students' learning, particularly as the songs of the era are very useful as primary sources.
